SanDisk unveils two new 256GB microSD cards

SanDisk announced two new microSD cards during the Mobile World Congress show in Shanghai on Tuesday (Wednesday morning local time), including the SanDisk Extreme microSDXC UHS-I and the 256GB SanDisk Ultra microSDHX UHS-I, Premium Edition.

The 256GB SanDisk Extreme offers transfer speeds up to 100MB/s and write speeds up to 90MB/s while the 256GB SanDisk Ultra Premium Edition offers transfer speeds up to 95MB/s.

The Extreme is SanDisk’s new top of the line microSD card, and it says it’s going to be the ideal option for folks looking to boost the storage in drones, action cameras and 4K smartphones. SanDisk also said both cards are”built to perform in harsh conditions” which means both are waterproof, shock proof, X-ray proof and temperature proof. Perfect for use in a phone like the Galaxy S7, which is also water resistant.

The 256GB SanDisk Ultra Premium Edition will be available this August starting at $149.99 while the 256GB SanDisk Extreme will launch during the fourth quarter for $199.99.
