The Toyota Soarer Aerocabin Is The Ultimate In Open Air Rad Rides

Photo: eBay

Each and every one of the 500 Toyota Soarer Aerocabins built were constructed in Japan during the month of April in 1989. Each one identical to the last, they all featured the same right-hand drive configuration, paint, engine, transmission, and fully-loaded options list. These are effectively an even larger and heavier MKIII Supra Turbo with a folding roof, and that makes it awesome.

This particular Soarer Aerocabin is radder than most, as it features a big turbo and exhaust, lowering springs, and color-matched 16″ SSR Formula Mesh wheels. Furthermore, this is alleged to be the only Soarer Aerocabin in the world to have received a manual transmission swap using a Supra-sourced R154 5-speed, and that’s worth as many rad tokens as you’d ever care to want. 7M-GTE engines are well known for their head gasket issues, and this one has had all of that taken care when the engine was yanked for a rebuild a few years ago.

The interior is sunfaded, and the windshield has a few cracks, which are pretty common for a car featuring 120,000 kilometers. Similarly, it’s claimed to have worn front control arm bushings, which are contributing to premature tire wear and should be replaced. The car is for sale on eBay right now, and considering it is essentially a one-of-a-kind here in the North American market, it could end up selling for a lot of cashola.

If you think you can get over the idea of driving a right-hand-drive car here, and intend to get those few small issues dealt with, you could be the proud new owner. Check out the full listing right here for a whole lot more photographs and information. It’s here just in time to buy it to take to Radwood next month. Of course, if you live in California it’ll be easier to “start a business” in Montana if you want to drive this thing quasi-legally.

This car was featured three years ago in a totally awesome Speedhunters article. The best part of the whole piece is this series of photographs depicting how the folding hard top functions.
