Mike Conway in the LMP1-class No. 6 Toyota TS050 collided with the LMP2-class No. 37 of SMP Racing’s Victor Shaytar early on during today’s 6 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps. This prototype-on-prototype violence must not stand, man.

Here’s another angle from the highlight reel:

The No. 6 Toyota was given a drive-thru penalty for causing the accident when he didn’t slow down in time before whacking into the No. 37.

This race has been completely insane thus far for everybody in the FIA World Endurance Championship’s top LMP1 class. The No. 2 Porsche 919 lost hybrid power shortly after the start of the race. Without its electric boost, No. 2 is left with less than 500 horsepower—far less than the over 900 horsepower that it’s supposed to have.

The No. 7 Audi R18 had to come back into the garage with a damaged floor. Driver Benoît Tréluyer complained of lost downforce and vibrations in the car, and pit crews spotted damage to the car’s front.

Lastly, the No. 1 Porsche had a left front puncture that took it out of the lead, and it got another left front puncture after putting on a new tire. So, into the garage it went to repair or replace any parts that might be rubbing.

Both LMP1s went back out after repairs, but geez. Maybe there’s something in the waters of Eau Rouge that’s making all the manufacturer LMP1 teams go crazy. Porsche No. 1 didn’t stay out for long, as it’s making its way back into the garage.

Maybe that injured No. 2 car has a chance after all!
