A passenger jet has reportedly crashed after taking off from Jose Marti International Airport in Havana, Cuba. According to CNN, Cuba’s state-run television reports that the aircraft involved is a Boeing 737 operated by Cubana Airlines.

Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel has said there is a high number of victims.

More than 100 passengers were reportedly onboard the aircraft.

An airport source told CNN that the plane was headed for the city of Holguin in the eastern part of Cuba.

Witnesses told the AFP that they saw a large column of smoke appear near the airport.

An earlier version of the story indicated the plane was headed to Guyana based on a CNN report. This has been corrected.
