A Wrecked Porsche 959 Still Sold for $476,5000 at the Monterey Auction

It’s gotta be a real downer to absolutely destroy the beautiful car you’re looking to sell. It’s gotta be even stranger to check out the Mecum Auctions site and find a 1987 Porsche 959 Komfort with a shitload of front-end damage without a single mention as to, uh, why the hell the passenger side front wheel is missing.

The great news is that it still runs. The bad news is that it’s probably not the kind of quality ride you’d expect from Porsche.

Road & Track dug into the mystery and reported that the poor car was just a victim of bad circumstances. The trailer hauling the 959 disconnected from the vehicle towing it and whacked into a tree. The Porsche just suffered the consequences of some bad connections.

But that doesn’t matter to a car fiend. You know there are plenty of people out there who are going to look at a beautiful 959 with a messed up front end and see potential. When it went up for auction, plenty of people got a little glimmer in their eye.

This bad boy ended up going for $467,500 on Friday at Pebble Beach, heavy damage and all. It is, after all, only one of 249 959 Komforts made. It’s worth a little investment to get you started.
