Alicia Vikander is the new Lara Croft in Tomb Raider

Forget Daisy Ridley. According to Hollywood Reporter, Alicia Vikander has been picked to play Lara Croft in the new Tomb Raider reboot. Vikander previously appeared in The Man From UNCLE and Ex Machina, and won an Oscar for her role in The Danish Girl.

No other details about the project are known at this point—apparently Roar Uthaug is set to direct—but it ends speculation about who will take over the role from Angelina Jolie, who played the part in 2001 and 2003. Tomb Raider has enjoyed a renaissance as of late, getting the reboot treatment from Crystal Dynamics and showing off a grittier, younger version of the character we’ve seen in the past.

Vikander is still a relatively obscure name to mainstream audiences, though her appointment as Lara Croft will no doubt propel her to superstardom. Audiences can see her next up in this summer’s Jason Bourne.
