Android 7.1 Developer Preview now available for Nexus 6P, Nexus 5X, and Pixel C

As promised, Google has posted the Android 7.1 Developer Preview for the Nexus 6P, Nexus 5X, and Pixel C. If you’ve opted into Google’s developer program, you can download the preview over-the-air right now. Or, if you aren’t privy to that route, you can flash the factory images or OTA files, which are linked here and here.

For non-Pixel owners, the Android 7.1 update is fairly tame, though it does introduce a few cool features. For one, Google has introduced a new shortcuts feature that’s similar to Apple’s 3D Touch. Basically, when you long-press on an icon it will surface key shortcuts, allowing users to perform certain actions. In a messaging app, for example, you can quickly start a conversation through the shortcut.

Additionally, Android 7.1 also introduces circular app icon support, enhanced live wallpaper metadata, and image keyboard support, the latter of which Google says was “much-requested” by developers.

If you have a Google Pixel device, you’re already enjoying these features. For Nexus owners, you can start getting a taste for the new enhancements (sans Google Assistant, of course).
