Awesome Android app lets you stream HTC Vive games on your phone

Want to check out SteamVR without paying $800 for an HTC Vive? VRidge is a free Android app from RiftCat that promises to do just that by streaming games from your PC to a mobile device, though it comes with some restrictions.

The app is available for free on Google Play. You’ll also need a computer running Windows 8.1 or Windows 10 and solid specs. The requirements are nowhere near as demanding as the actual HTC Vive. You’ll also want a Google Cardboard headset, which you can pick up for a few bucks online if you don’t have one already.

The company notes that the app is still pretty buggy. There’s some noticeable lag and text can appear blurry in games. You’re also missing a good chunk of the experience without HTC’s controllers and its awesome Room Scale feature.

So you probably shouldn’t buy a bunch of SteamVR games to use with VRidge, at least for now. Still, it’s a fun way to experience some of the free and cheaper experiences the HTC Vive has to offer.
