Ben Affleck’s Armageddon DVD commentary is hilarious

News flash: Ben Affleck, typically known for his dramatic flair in such movies as Gone Girl and Gigli, is actually pretty funny. You wouldn’t know it by his stoic demeanor and square jaw, but thanks to DVD commentary that surfaced earlier this week, he has a career as a color commentator should this acting thing fall by the wayside.

The commentary is for Michael Bay’s Armageddon, which was fine as a movie but had an absolutely ridiculous plot. Instead of teaching astronauts, who typically have backgrounds in engineering, how to drill, the U.S. government instead sends a motley crew of oil drillers to space. This oversight was not lost on Affleck, who took Bay to task.

“I asked Michael why it was easier to train oil drillers to become astronauts than it was to train astronauts to become oil drillers and he told me to shut the f*ck up,” Affleck said.

Affleck didn’t stop there.

“This is a bit of a logic stretch, let’s face it,” Affleck continues. “They don’t know jack about drilling? How hard can it be? Aim the drill at the ground and turn it on.”

Of course, drilling is much more complicated than that. But it shows that the actors were fully aware of how ridiculous the plot of Armageddon was, but did Michael Bay care? Not in the slightest.

Ben Affleck should do DVD commentaries more often. What a ledge. pic.twitter.com/gQ3abVpcDu
