BlackBerry Press details leak ahead of CES unveiling

On Tuesday, it was all but confirmed the new BlackBerry Press smartphone will get its official unveiling at CES this week. Now a new leak has spilled all the juicy details early, including a list of specifications and new press renders.

The details were posted by a tipster on Weibo. Normally we would recommend you take leaks like this with a pinch of salt, but this one comes with new images of the BlackBerry Press — also known as the BlackBerry Mercury and the DTEK70 — which suggests the information is genuine.

The handset is expected to offer a 4.6-inch Full HD display with a classic physical keyboard. It will be powered by a Snapdragon processor and 3GB of RAM, with 32GB of storage as standard. It is also expected to feature a 3,400mAh battery.

The tipster doesn’t offer any information regarding the DTEK70’s camera, but previous leaks have promised an 18-megapixel sensor on the back, and an 8-megapixel sensor on the front. The handset is also thought to have a fingerprint scanner embedded in its spacebar.

The DTEK70 name shown in the images suggests this is indeed another handset designed by TCL, the Chinese firm that has acquired global rights to the BlackBerry name. It was initially believed the device could have been the last handset designed by BlackBerry in-house.

It’s still unclear when the DTEK70 will be available, or how much it will cost. However, its midrange specifications suggest it probably won’t be as expensive as the Priv was when that made its debut just over a year ago.
