Broncos superstar who’s made $30 million has already started working on his next career — chicken farmer

With the Super Bowl approaching this Sunday, the NFL offseason is almost upon us.

And while Broncos linebacker Von Miller is surely focused on the big game and his huge role in the Broncos’ pass rush, he also has his offseason work already laid out.

Miller, who has made $29.9 million in his career and will be a free agent this offseason, raises chickens in his off-time. He currently has a chicken coop in his backyard and has bigger aspirations for farming.

He told Yahoo’s Shutdown Corner, “My chicken farm consists of about 3,000-square-foot of backyard space and a chicken coop and about 40 birds, 50 birds. So, right now, that’s what Miller Farms is. It’s a very, very humble beginning, it’s very small and intimate, but I plan on taking it to a whole new level. I’m excited about the opportunity to do that and build relationships with all the chicken farmers around the world.”

It’s not a new passion, however — Miller also majored in poultry science at Texas A&M. During the NFL lockout in the 2011 offseason, Miller took Stack behind the scenes at Texas A&M’s poultry science center and described his work with chickens.

“They say all the time in college, you should just go to class and you’ll find your niche,” Miller said. “Well, I was taking class and I found my niche: it’s just chickens. … I just feel like, ‘Man, this is for me.’ It’s just something I can see myself doing and my family and my children doing for a long time.”

Miller’s infatuation with chickens is legitimate. He reportedly has a chicken tattoo, one that he seemed to have been planning on getting for awhile:

He reaps the rewards of his labor:

And he cares about quality living for chickens:

In 2013, Miller told USA Today’s Lindsay H. Jones, “I really wanted to get to the fundamentals, getting back to raising chicks,” Miller said. “I raised chicks in college in class and stuff. Now it’s a project for me to do it on my own, and see where I go with it. I’m pretty excited about it.”
