The world is still reeling from the tragic, untimely death of actress Carrie Fisher, who fans know and love as Princess Leia in Star Wars. Following her death, many people have wondered how it will impact the franchise going forward. It’s a delicate situation that Lucasfilm will have to address in the movies.

According to reports, Fisher had already finished work on Episode VIII, but it’s unclear how her death will affect the ninth Star Wars film, which doesn’t begin shooting until 2018. Apparently, she was set to play a role in Episode IX, too, but that may change due to Fisher’s passing.

Fisher last played the role of Leia in 2014’s The Force Awakens, where she appeared as a General of the Resistance. The actress rose to superstardom following her portrayal of the character in A New Hope, which came out in 1977 when Fisher was just 20 years old. She returned for both sequels, including 1983’s Return of the Jedi.

Gone too soon

Although Fisher is best known for playing Princess Leia, she was also known for being a talented writer and a mental health advocate having struggled with bipolar disorder herself.

In addition to appearing in Star Wars, Fisher recently played Mia in Catastrophe, a British sitcom starring Sharon Horgan and Rob Delaney.
