Destiny: Rise of Iron is not coming to the PlayStation 3 or Xbox 360

If you want to play the recently announced Destiny expansion Rise of Iron, then you’re going to have to upgrade if you’re still gaming on the PlayStation 3 or Xbox 360. Bungie has confirmed that the next expansion will not be coming to previous generation consoles.

This is the first expansion that will not be available on the old hardware. The previous three, The Dark Below, House of Wolves and The Taken King, were all released as cross-generation software.

Bungie addressed the issue in a blog post, explaining its plans for “legacy consoles” and stating that it will “continue to support players who elect not to upgrade their console hardware.”

This Fall, you’ll still be able to play Destiny on legacy generation consoles, but that journey will occur on a separate path. Up to this point, player progression between current and legacy consoles in the same family has been shared by each account. This summer, that experience will fork into two parallel experiences that will no longer share progression.

Destiny: Rise of Iron will be released for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on Sept. 20. It will cost $29.99, and buyers will have to have bought The Taken King if they want to enjoy this expansion as well. I wonder if that will be seeing a discount anytime soon.
