Dragon Quest Builders confirmed for PS4 and PS Vita launch this fall in North America

Dragon Quest fans have pestered Square Enix for years and years to give their series more respect in North America, and their (im)patience seems to finally be catching up to them. Square Enix has confirmed that Dragon Quest Builders, the Minecraft-inspired spin-off announced last year, will be released in North America for the PlayStation 4 and PS Vita this coming October.

Square Enix says the release will fall in line with the franchise’s 30th anniversary, making Dragon Quest one of the longest running franchises. The game joins Dragon Quest Heroes and both Nintendo 3DS remakes of Dragon Quest VII and Dragon Quest VIII as games from the franchise that have been confirmed for localization over the past year.

These releases come three years removed from the last time Square Enix made a push to popularize the series in North America. While it didn’t pan out in the long run, the company managed to sell 1 million copies of Dragon Quest IX overseas, making it the best selling game in the franchise outside of Japan. No doubt, Square Enix is looking to build up some hype to replicate the success for Dragon Quest XI.
