A day that I never thought would come has finally arrived. Square Enix, heeding the pleas of fans around the world, has finally released Dragon Quest VIII: Journey of the Cursed King on the Nintendo 3DS with the aid of Nintendo. The game is available now for $39.99.
The release is more than just a great video game becoming available on a modern console. Fans have been struggling for years to get Square Enix to support Dragon Quest throughout the English-speaking world, and this release is the second main game from the series we’ve gotten in four months.

Money talks, and it’s the only language companies speak
Frankly, the only way we’re going to get more Dragon Quest games in the States is if we buy the ones Square Enix puts out now. Otherwise, if we don’t, it might go back into hibernation for another three years until Square Enix acquiesces with another game to appeal the squealing fans.
I don’t want to miss out on Dragon Quest XI, so I’m going to do my part. Hopefully, this ruse of supporting Dragon Quest for more Dragon Quest is not a continued guerilla marketing ploy. Otherwise, it’s one I’m happily swept up in. Nobody needs to twist my arm to get me to buy this franchise.
