Everlane’s $68 Performance Chinos Feel Like Activewear, Look Like Respectable Pants

Activity-minded chinos aren’t anything new, but they tend to skew too far toward the athletic side of the equation, at the expense of being, you know, nice looking pants. Everlane’s new Performance Chinos, by contrast, strike the perfect balance, and offer the best of both worlds.

Rather than loud, crinkly, weirdly shiny athletic fabric with a baggy fit, the slim and modern looking Performance Chinos are made from a simple blend of 94% cotton, plus 6% elastane to provide a little bit of stretch, just like the company’s terrific jeans. The fabric is on the thin side to allow for greater breathability and sweat wicking, so they might not be the first pants you reach for during the cold months of the year, but they don’t look cheap. Or like athletic pants. They look like chinos, but they feel like something you could run a few miles in if you needed to.

More likely though, you’ll just wear them the same places you’d wear regular chinos, except you’ll actually feel comfortable walking around in them, or even sitting down in them. Hell, I did full on squats in them, and the only place I felt any tightness at all was in the waistband, which isn’t as stretchy as the rest of the fabric. And these are slim fits! They’re a little more formal than Fourth Pants, but nearly as comfortable.

And like Everlane’s jeans, they only cost $68. They’re not warm enough to be your only chinos, but for your spring through fall wardrobe, I can’t recommend them highly enough.
