Facebook for Android beta hints at upcoming Chromecast support

Most of the videos you’ll stumble across on Facebook aren’t worth the data they require, but some are well worth watching. And according to a Facebook beta for Android, you’ll soon be able to beam the good ones to your TV using a Google Chromecast.

A small number of users running a Facebook beta app are now seeing a Chromecast button when playing videos, according to Android Police. Tapping it allows users to select a streaming device, but at the moment, videos don’t play when attempting to beam them.

Instead, a Facebook logo appears on the destination TV along with a loading animation — and that’s all users are seeing. However, the change suggests Facebook is in the process of adding Chromecast support to its official Android app at some point in the near future.

The move would make it easier for Facebook users to enjoy videos with friends, and that’s even more important now that we have Periscope-style live-streaming in Facebook Live. But until this feature makes it into a public update, there’s no guarantee we’ll get it.

With that in mind, don’t get your hopes up just yet – but be on the lookout for Facebook updates.
