Fairune 2 comes to the 3DS next week, perfect little gem for nostalgia bums

I just want to point out a quick game that I’ll be definitely picking up next week. While at Tokyo Game Show 2016, a little Nintendo 3DS game went on sale called Fairune, and at just $2, I decided to give it a try. I’m a sucker for anything that can transport me back to the 8-bit days of Dragon Warrior and The Legend of Zelda, and this looked like a perfect outlet for that desire.

It turned out to be true! Fairune nails the 8-bit adventure spot-on, and it lands somewhere between the games found on the NES and Game Boy Color. It can be beaten in less than an hour if you know what you’re doing, but so many memories and classic quips are jammed into that time frame that I didn’t care. In the four hours it took me to beat it, because I had no idea what I was doing, I transported myself back to a simpler time in gaming and just… ahhh… relaxed.

It was so nice.

And now, Fairune 2 is coming exclusively to the Nintendo 3DS next week on Oct. 20. If it’s anything like the original, you can expect a bullseye classic feel and a puzzle game that operates like all your favorite old-timey adventures. If you’ve got an afternoon, or in my case a long train ride, to kill, then by all means, try both!

Just don’t pick up the first game’s mobile version. The Nintendo 3DS is the only way to go because the music is half of the experience! The mobile version lacks it.
