Fiat Chrysler recalls 1.1 million cars because it’s afraid they’ll roll away without you in them

That headline isn’t a joke. Fiat Chrysler just announced that it’s recalling 1.1 million cars. This recall isn’t about Takata airbags but something much, much crazier. Chrysler is legitimately afraid that your car will roll away without you inside of it. This certainly isn’t autonomous driving either.

No, the cars don’t have brains of their own, nor are computers telling them to roll out of the parking lot. Instead, BBC said that select models aren’t actually being placed in park, even if the driver thinks he or she has done so. Side note from us: this is why you want to use a parking brake, especially on a hill. Bonus: turn the steering wheel so your wheels will back into the curb.

According toBBC, which first reported on the news, the recall affects the 2012-2014 Chrysler 300, 2012-2014 Dodge Chargers and 2014-2015 Jeep Grand Cherokees. 850,000 of the vehicles are being recalled in North America. 41 injuries have already been reported, so it’s a serious matter.
