Film Fondue: Another mysterious villain rumored for Star Wars: Rogue One

It was a quiet-ish week as we start to edge toward some bigger movie releases. Below are some of the releases you might have missed from this week.

Rogue One main cast

Star Wars: Rogue One

In addition the Darth Vader, Making Star Wars reports a new villain will be introduced in Rogue One. The character isn’t named, though he’s described as an older male who wears a “majestic white cape.” Fancy. [MakingStarWars]

Boba Fett in Rogue One?

Toys aren’t always indicative of what will appear in a movie, and we saw that with Star Wars: The Force Awakens. That said, there is a small possibility Boba Fett could make an appearance in Rogue One. At a recent toy fair in Nuremberg, Lego teased an upcoming line of Star Wars products, which showed off the bounty hunter’s ship. [MakingStarWars]

Awesome Mix Vol. 2

Star-Lord himself, Chris Pratt, posted an image of Awesome Mix Vol. 2 to his Instagram, saying how excited he is to be back on set. Filming is just getting underway for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, which comes out in May of next year. That’s not that far away! [ChrisPratt]

A talking Hulk in Thor 3?

When we find Hulk in Thor: Ragnarok, he’ll apparently display a personality that’s a mix between the raging giant and Bruce Banner. With that in mind, he might also display more human characteristics, like the ability to talk. Whether he’ll talk or not apparently has to do with where Marvel wants to take the character in future movies, which, according to Hulk actor Mark Ruffalo, will be on a huge multi-movie arc. 10 Cloverfield Lane secrecy

Mary Elizabeth Winstead talked about the secrecy around 10 Cloverfield Lane, and how weird it is to finally see it on the verge of coming out.

There is this veil of secrecy to it from the very beginning. We were making this movie in this little bubble where nobody else knew what we were doing and there’s really only three actors in the whole thing, so it kind of felt like this really intimate experience. Now that it’s about to come out, it’s sort of crazy—like, ‘Oh yeah, people are excited to see this movie.’ I forget that that was going to happen. [EW]

TJ Miller in Deadpool

TJ Miller, who plays Weasel in the upcoming Deadpool film, said some of his lines were too dark for the final cut. Much of the stuff is improvised, and there were times when director Tim Miller had to step in and say things were getting out of hand, even for a Deadpool movie. You can see more of his comments over at IGN.

After teasing his involvement, Bryan Singer confirmed he will director 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea. Filming will start this fall, with a release date presumably sometime in 2017. Singer’s next film, X-Men: Apocalypse, is coming out later this summer. [Deadline]

Kevin James gets Netflix original

Paul Blart, aka Kevin James, is getting his own original Netflix movie. The film, known as True Memoirs of an International Assassin, will follow James as he’s mistaken for a killer-for-hire. Of course that’s what the story will be. And of course it’ll be successful on Netflix, where his buddy, Adam Sandler, has already found a home with The Ridiculous Six. [MoviePilot]
