Final Fantasy XII never looked better than in The Zodiac Age

Square Enix’s Final Fantasy Brand Manager Shinji Hashimoto brought a demonstration of Final Fantasy XII: The Zodiac Age to Taipei Game Show over the weekend, and he showed off more of the PlayStation 2 classic’s HD remaster than we’ve seen before.

Of course, if you’ve played the game, this footage will ring a bell. The Gambit menu and Final Fantasy XII‘s intense boss battles are two of its biggest selling points, but the biggest saving grace here is a new feature called Turbo Mode. Final Fantasy XII is well known for having large dungeons and stretches of time that players just wish could be sped up to get one with it.

Just the press of the L1 button and one of my biggest problems with the game is gone in an instant. How nice is that?

Final Fantasy XII is the next Final Fantasy game I want to reconcile with

Of all the Final Fantasy games, two of the most controversial of the bunch are Final Fantasy VIII and Final Fantasy XII. Their deviations from the standard norm rubbed a lot of fans the wrong way when they came out, but as games have evolved to incorporate more styles, so too can opinion towards classics.

I’m wrapping up a playthrough of Final Fantasy VIII right now, and my opinion towards it have totally changed since 1999. Final Fantasy XII is next on my forgiveness list… if I don’t squeeze Chrono Cross in there at some point, at least.
