Final Fantasy XV has to settle for second two times over in the UK. The game did not reach the top spot of the country’s sales charts during the week of its launch, losing out to FIFA 17.
Despite how much I’ve tried to have a more global mindset over the last few years… man, soccer. I still don’t get it.
UK trackers Gfk Chart-Track and UKIE estimate that Final Fantasy XV sold between 115,000 – 135,000 physical copies during its first week on the market. This puts it behind Final Fantasy XIII, which sold 170,000 – 180,000 in 2010.
However, it’s worth pointing out that this figure only represents physical sales, and digital sales have taken off vastly over the last 6 years.
PlayStation 4 dominates the Xbox One’s build
It should come at no surprise that the PlayStation build of the game sold better than the Xbox One’s. Final Fantasy has always been more closely associated with PlayStation’s branding, and in the UK, it was measured that 79 percent of the copies sold were on the PlayStation 4. 21 percent of the sales went to Xbox One.
Overall, the game is doing well and has managed to ship out a grand total of 5 million copies worldwide, both physically and digitally. I’m still plugging away at it, and I love it to pieces. I’ll get to the point where I’ve played enough to write a review soon, but this is something I think I could play forever.
