Former BlackBerry CEO Thorsten Heins out as CEO of Powermat

Thorsten Heins

Former BlackBerry CEO Thorsten Heins stepped down from his role as chief executive officer of Powermat on Tuesday. The move is part of Powermat’s larger plan to “position the company for growth in the near term and realign all shareholders under one unified umbrella,” Powermat explained, and it follows some turmoil within the company.

The shuffle follows a lawsuit in which a co-founder (and former CEO) and other board members filed a lawsuit against Powermat, accusing the firm of mismanagement. That co-founder, Ran Poliakine, who himself was pushed out as CEO, said he’s pleased that the agreement is completed and look forward to watching Powermat “continue to build on its strengths and leadership position in wireless charging around the world.”

Heins will also relinquish his role as chairman of Powermat’s board of directors. Powermat named Michael Blumenthal, a managing partner of Grant Thornton, as the new head of its board while the company looks for a new CEO. The company thanked Heins for his efforts “in advancing Powermat’s leadership position in wireless charging.”

Now it’s time to see if Powermat can get back on track.
