Britain’s former number one tennis star Tim Henman has not played professional tennis for 10 years but still likes to keep in shape.

Henman won 11 ATP titles and reached four Wimbledon semi-finals during a 15-year career, in which he became a cult hero among British sports fans.

Speaking to Business Insider at a Jaguar XF Sportbrake event in London, Henman went through his workout routine and let slip his one vice: “I like wine!”

When he retired from the game in 2007 he began experiencing back problems. To overcome the injuries, he worked out “little but often” in his home gym.

He told us: “When I stopped playing I was struggling with my back but I soon worked out that the less I did, the worse it got. So for me it became a case of working out little, but often.”

“I have a gym at home,” he added. “I end up, if I have time, working out most days. I do 45 minutes of cardiovascular exercising, lifting weights, of course stability, and stretching. Stretching is the hard part because it’s so boring.”

Henman has also dabbled with other fitness routines. “I’ve done yoga, pilates and those types of things in the past. They’re all beneficial but it’s about what works best for you,” he said.

As well as keeping the back problems at bay, the exercise helps Henman indulge some vino. “So I know if I am going to have a few glasses I better do some exercise,” he laughed.

Business Insider asked for detail. Red or white? Malbec or Sauvignon Blanc? “I’m not fussy! Champagne, red, or white wine… I like it all.”
