Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge home buttons scratch easily, report says

The Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge are both excellent smartphones, but they may include one significant design flaw. PhoneArena reports that the home button on both devices scratches easily, offering up photos of each device as evidence.

The photos above look pretty damning. The Galaxy S7 home button is badly scuffed and the S7 Edge took similar damage too. PhoneArena notes that a handful of other units it checked were scratched in the same place with comparable results. However, a Galaxy S7 Edge owned by TechnoBuffalo’s Todd Haselton hasn’t suffered the same fate. Not even a little bit.

It’s unclear what material Samsung uses to protect its home button, but it doesn’t seem to be the same scratch-resistant glass used to cover the rest of the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge. By comparison, Apple uses sapphire glass to keep its Touch ID button protected.

Thankfully, the damage doesn’t actually affect Samsung’s fingerprint scanner, which is built into the new phone’s home button. So even if your phone is a little scratched in that spot up it should work just fine.
