GoPro poaches one of Apple’s top designers

Daniel Coster is leaving Apple for GoPro after a long career as part of Cupertino’s small industrial design team under Jony Ive, The Information reports. He also confirmed the news in an interview with Stuff New Zealand published on Wednesday.

Due to Apple’s infamous secrecy, it’s unclear exactly which products Coster helped develop. However, his name has appeared on Apple patents dating back to 1999. He’s credited on a patent for the iPhone 4, along with other hardware and software products.

Coster will take on an executive role at GoPro as VP of Design, which sounds like a pretty nice promotion. Specifically, he’s running a mysterious “new hardware design group” within the company. He’ll officially make the switch at the end of April.

GoPro already offers some great and impressively compact designs with its action cameras. The company is expected to unveil its first drone soon, so it’s possible Coster may have been hired to help with the design.
