Guess the Device: Big, red and unloved

You can probably guess the device by the color scheme alone; I also included a picture at the end that pretty much gives the device away. But it’s been so long since this slate was released that maybe it’s already moved into the deepest recesses of your mind, tucked away among the other gadgets that just didn’t get the love they deserved.

I’d love to give this another shot; sadly, it will no longer turn on.

This device was released by a company that experienced one of the more tragic downfalls in mobile history. Not that it was making bad devices before it went kaput, but it was kind of swept under the rug and left to die.

What made this device so cool is that it was the company’s first Windows tablet. It had an attractive design, excellent battery life, and a vibrant display (for the time). Unfortunately, its software wasn’t very good, and it was up against other devices from Microsoft that were ultimately more attractive and useful.

This slate was essentially DOA, and that’s no fault of the device. Maybe in a different life it would have gone on to become a bonafide competitor.
