The Porsche 935 name is a legendary one in the racing scene, having dominated endurance races around the world in the 1970s. But recently, after many years, Porsche showed off a new model that makes 690 horsepower, costs over $800,000, and looks just as stunning as the original. Here’s a close look at the car on the track and in the studio.

In the video below, Porsche designers and engineers discuss how they developed the new track-day special 935, discussing the car’s slightly tweaked versions of the Porsche 911 GT2 RS’s 3.8-liter twin-turbo engine and the PDK transmission. But despite having essentially the same powertrain, the 935 was designed to out-shine the 911 on the track. As it should.

Exterior designer Grant Larson says his team began working on the car just over a year ago in July of 2017, having only three to four days to make their initial sketches. Which is amazing, because the results speak for themselves:

It’s a magical car, but only 77 will ever be made. Which means most of us will probably have to rely on pretty footage like that shown above to satiate our 935 needs. It’s a true shame.
