Here’s What It’s Like to Take a 10,000-Mile Road Trip in Tuner Cars

If you’ve ever wondered what the fun to pain-in-the-ass ratio would be for driving from Florida to Alaska in turbocharged tuner cars, check this video out.

The Gears & Gasoline folks have set off from the sweaty southeast on a 10,000 mile journey to America’s biggest state in a Mitsubishi Lancer Evo MR and a Subaru Forester with an STI engine swapped in.

Pretty sweet looking cars both, I have to say. And they’re looking particularly dashing with these roof-mounted cargo boxes. Or maybe I meant “hilarious.”

Anyway, we’re big fans of long rides with unsuitable wheels and the production value on this video is pretty impressive.

Looks like the Advance Auto Parts sponsorship gets utilized heavily right from the onset as stuff breaks, and Ben realizes that the lack of sound deadening on his Mitsubishi Lancer Evo MR might get annoying, but has a reasonable justification for wanting to spend three weeks crossing the country in his modified car:

“Every time i go on a road trip, we’ll always take some rental car or like some minivan or something boring and you’ll always wish that you had, you know, your fun car when you come across a fun road… this is is kind of that opportunity for us.”

I guess that’s pretty much the same reason David hikes from Michigan to Utah every year to wheel some clapped-out crap can Jeep on the slickrock of Moab.
