Here’s what Quantum Break does when it thinks you pirated the game

Quantum Break - PIrate Copy

Game developers turn to all sorts of fancy tricks to call out pirates of their software. This has been going on for a long, long time, and Remedy is doing what they did with Alan Wake for Quantum Break. That is, the main character wears an eye patch in pirated versions of the game.

Of course, not all “pirates” are pirates in this case. As users are reporting on NeoGAF, if you start the game without being logged into the Windows 10 Store, it assumes you stole it. Which, well, is ridiculous. If this were more game-breaking DRM, this would be obnoxious.

As it stands now, I kind of wish the pirate patch was there for Jack Joyce in legitimate Xbox One versions, too.

We reviewed Quantum Break here on TechnoBuffalo. It’s a decent enough game, though it comes with more bloat and less action than we really like. I just downloaded the PC version, so we’ll see if the port’s changes warrant an article. What I’ve heard initially, at least, is that the port work wasn’t too good.
