If You Don’t Love Group B At The End Of This Video Then You Have No Soul

Super high speeds. The most advanced technology humanity could devise. And crowds literally reaching out to touch the cars. This is what Group B rallying is about, and if you don’t love it after watching this, then you only have yourself to blame.

Group B racing of the 1980s was probably the most popular that world rallying has ever gotten, and we totally get why. You had the battle of 500+ horsepower monsters, legendary drivers like Walter Röhrl and Michèle Mouton, almost ideological battles between rear- and all-wheel-drive, and what surely looked like alien spaceships under the skin but demented French hatchbacks from a distance.

And then, of course, the crowds. Both the wildly high speeds and the daredevils among the people watching it trying to literally touch the cars as they flew by at incredible speeds led to the deaths of a number of people involved, least not its biggest stars, Henri Toivonen and Sergio Cresto.

So if you need a good primer for Group B, just watch this vid. And if you don’t fall in love with the whole era, at least you’ll fall in love with Bonnie Tyler.
