Manchester United is preparing a fresh bid for Tottenham Hotspur defensive midfielder Eric Dier.

Manager José Mourinho is in the midst of a spending spree as he aims to improve on the club’s 6th place finish in the Premier League last season.

United has already bought versatile defender Victor Lindelöf and powerful striker Romelu Lukaku for a combined £105 million.

And now United is ready to offer Tottenham £50 million for Dier, according to The Guardian.

Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy has already spurned United’s advances once, having knocked back an opening bid earlier this summer. The Mirror also says Tottenham “is prepared to resist all bids.”

United can double Dier’s £3.5 million per year salary and can even offer Tottenham £60 million if it meant signing a player who once dreamed of representing the Red Devils when he was a teenager.

The BBC interviewed Dier when he was a Sporting Lisbon academy graduate, aged 16. He was asked what would happen if “his childhood idols” Manchester United made an offer.

“[If I] felt I was ready, then it would be very hard to turn down,” he said.
