Mario Kart 8 Deluxe releases for Nintendo Switch shortly after launch

Throughout Nintendo’s Switch presentation, we repeatedly saw glimpses of Mario Kart 8, but it wasn’t included in the presentation. It’s coming, though, and it’s called Mario Kart 8 Deluxe.

Nintendo is calling this the “definitive version of Mario Kart 8.” It can be played anywhere with up to 8 friends in local multiplayer. THe game includes all the tracks and characters from the Wii U version of the game, all the DLC tracks and characters, and a few new characters as well. The list of new faces includes Inkling Girl and Inkling Boy from Splatoon, as well as King Boo, Dry Bones and Bowser Jr.

Battle mode has been revamped to include Balloon Battle and Bob-omb Blast, and includes new courses. There’s a new “Smart Steering” feature, which Nintendo says makes it easier for young or inexperienced players to enjoy the game.

The game plays in 1080p when played on your TV and, presumably, at 60fps.

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe hits the Nintendo Switch sometime in April.
