New HP Spectre laptop to debut tomorrow, take on MacBook

Apple MacBook Gold-7

HP is gearing up to make a splash in the struggling PC market. The New York Times reports that the company will unveil a new super-slim “Spectre” laptop at the New York Times Luxury Conference in Paris on Tuesday. It will be the latest in the Spectre laptop family offered by HP.

HP’s new laptop will sport a 13.3-inch display and will reportedly measure in at under 11mm thick. That’s even slimmer than Apple’s 12-inch MacBook, which measures 13.1mm thick. The company didn’t offer any other details, but it did hint at a few new innovations that could be included in the upcoming product.

Speaking to The New York Times, HP chief executive Dion Weisler revealed several different concepts. One laptop offered a traditional design with powerful microphones built into the edges, along with easy controls for making conference calls. Another hybrid model features a small tablet that connects wirelessly to a keyboard attachment, making it a closer competitor to the iPad Pro.

HP also plans to offer a small number of gold and diamond-crusted versions of the new laptop, which will retail for $25,000. All earnings from that device will be donated to charity. No word on pricing for the standard model yet.
