Paranoid Mark Zuckerberg covers his laptop webcam with tape

Turns out Mark Zuckerberg is just as paranoid as the rest of us. A recent photo shared by Facebook’s CEO accidentally revealed that he covers his laptops webcam and microphone for extra security.

The image was meant to celebrate Instagram’s latest milestone of 500 million monthly users, but the internet quickly noticed the modified laptop sitting behind Zuck. A small piece of tape covers the main camera above the display. A second piece along the left side appears to block off the microphone jack, possibly holding in some kind of plug.

To be fair, we don’t know for sure that this is Zuckerberg’s laptop. However, Gizmodo notes that it does appear to be his actual desk. He apparently sat in the same spot last year while recording a video which included a detailed tour of the desk.

So is Zuck just being paranoid? As the CEO of Facebook he’s definitely a big target for hackers, so it makes sense to be on the defensive. But considering that his company is constantly pushing us to share every moment of our lives through videos, photos and status updates, it’s a little hypocritical, too.
