Another day, another delay. Today’s high-profile disappointment is Persona 5, which is no longer going to be released on Valentine’s Day, Feb. 14, 2017. At least this news will save us an argument with a lot of our significant others.
Instead, the game will be released for the PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4 on April 4, making this delay roughly a month and a half after the original schedule.
Atlus is offering compensation for the delay by giving away the Japanese vocal track for free as DLC. It’s possible that it was always going to be free, but the confirmation that it is coming is enough to offset my disappointment over the delay.
I wish video games were like smartphones
Smartphones and iPhones are not really my area of expertise, but I’m always fascinated by their reveals. Tim Cook goes on stage, reveals the latest iPhone model, and guess what! It’s available within the week! I mean, whoa! Right?
Why can’t video games be like that? We don’t need two or three years of hype tucked in between disappointing delays.
Persona 5 goes double for me, mostly because I’m dying to finally know if my demo from Tokyo Game Show 2016 was truly a fluke or is accurate in the representation of the final game. I’m a little nervous about it, but at least I know this delay is not for the sake of the game’s quality. Japanese fans have already been playing it for a month and a half!
