Ride on the Fender of This 700HP Subaru Hillclimb Racer

If you’ve spent time around stage rally in the last two decades, you’ve likely heard a lot of that signature Subaru flat-four rumble-and-turbo ripping through the forests. It’s a sound that is impossible to mistake for any other kind of car, and has left an indelible mark on my automotive sense memory. This Legacy sounds perfect, and it climbs hills even better.

Damien Bradley has been driving this downforce-enabled Legacy sedan in time attack racing for a while now, long enough to have earned a UK Time Attack championship, and has decided to transition to hillclimb events for a new challenge. This video was captured during the 2018 Retro Rides Gathering at the historic Shelsley Walsh Hillclimb in Worcestershire, England.

According to the description of the video, this car features a 2.35-liter engine built by Mike Latimer Race Engines to produce 700 brake horsepower. In the video you can hear the straight-cut gears whining away inside a Samsonas 6-speed sequential transmission. Of course, giant brakes, huge wheels hidden under huge fender flares, and a full bevvy of suspension modifications help the car grip and stop whenever needed. There’s very little stock Legacy left here, and I love it.
