Samsung still planning Galaxy S8 unveiling at MWC, report claims

Samsung is still planning to announce the Galaxy S8 at Mobile World Congress next month, according to a report out of South Korea — despite recent rumors that have claimed fans will have to wait until April for its unveiling.

Samsung has traditionally announced its latest Galaxy S smartphones at MWC in Barcelona, but it was believed that this year’s Galaxy S8 unveiling would be pushed back so that Samsung could spend more time on quality control and avoid another Galaxy Note 7 fiasco.

Now The Investor reports that the device will be making an appearance at MWC, but there’s a catch: Although Samsung will unveil the Galaxy S8, we’ll still have to wait “a month or two” before we can buy it, according to one source.

“Mass production is expected to begin in March, when Samsung will most likely roll out 5 million units of the S8.” The official release date is expected to fall sometime in mid-April.

It makes sense for Samsung to show fans what it has up its sleeve as early as possible; this will hopefully encourage many to hold onto their existing devices a little longer until the Galaxy S8 goes on sale, instead of switching to another brand.

The new handset is expected to deliver a redesigned form factor with super slim bezels and a 6-inch display, a blazing-fast processor, iris recognition technology, and its own S Pen accessory.

Despite its failures with the Note 7, Samsung is said to have incredibly high hopes for the Galaxy S8, which it expects to outsell every other Galaxy S device. “Samsung seems to have set a more ambitious goal than before to make up for the loss caused by the Note model.”

MWC 2017 kicks off on February 27, so we have 7 weeks to wait before we find out whether the Galaxy S8 will be appearing in Barcelona.
