Samsung to introduce feature similar to BlackBerry Hub

Samsung’s upcoming Note 6 won’t just come with powerful specs and an improved design. According to SamMobile, the Korean company wants to introduce a big new software feature, too, and it sounds a lot like BlackBerry Hub.

Apparently the new feature will be known as Samsung Focus, acting as a hub that collects communications into a single place, including text, email, social, and more. When BlackBerry introduced Hub, people seemed divided over its implementation; on the one hand, it was a convenient place to find messages and other communications; on the other, people often found it a little too overwhelming.

SamMobile claims Samsung’s app borrows a lot of design cues from Google’s Material Design, which means it should feel like a natural part of the Android experience. It’s unclear how different it’ll look compared to something like BlackBerry Hub, but the building blocks are certainly there to make something great.

Over the past few years, Samsung has taken a more measured approach to software, cutting down on bloat and allowing Google’s ideas to come through. With Focus, it sounds like Samsung is attempting to make something people will actually use, rather than something that’ll forever hide in the app drawer.
