Sling TV launches new $20 starter bundle, swaps Disney/ESPN for local sports

Sling TV

Sling TV just announced a new beta “multi-channel” starter package that comes with content from various FOX stations and optional “extra” premium content from National Geographic, AMC, A&E, Turner and more.

More importantly, however, at least in my eyes, is that the offering includes the YES Network. That’s the home network used for Yankees games and is particularly noteworthy because Comcast, as of 2016, stopped offering the YES Network to its customer base on the Eastern seaboard. Now Yankees fans can access those games without having to switch cable providers entirely, and without having to sign up for MLB.TV Premium, which is blacked out in local markets anyway. The trade off is that the new package doesn’t include ESPN or Disney.

There’s plenty of content for non-sports fans, though.

“We believe our new multi-stream service, anchored by a strong lineup of Fox content, including top franchises like ‘Empire’ and ‘The Americans’ on FOX and FX, as well as access to Major League Baseball in 15 markets, including the New York Yankees, is the first step in answering their requests,” said Sling TV CEO Roger Lync. “We look forward to incorporating our customers’ feedback throughout the beta phase as we evolve the multi-stream service to include additional channels, features and functionality.” That means you’ll find other must-haves (at least in my house) like HGTV and The History Channel.

The new offering costs $20 per month and can be purchased now.
