Sony brings Android 7.0 Nougat to Xperia X series

Sony today began rolling out its Android 7.0 update for several devices in the Xperia X series. The Xperia X, Xperia X Dual, and Xperia X Compact are all getting the Nougat release, which brings features like split-screen multitasking and a whole bunch of new emoji.

Specifically, Sony is seeding these updates for handsets with the F5121 (Xperia X), F5122 (Xperia X Dual), and F5321 (Xperia X Compact) model numbers. If you have one of these devices with a different model number, then, you might have to wait a little longer.

XperiaBlog reports that the update is currently available in Australia, Latin America, the Middle East, Russia, Turkey, Thailand, and Vietnam. Presuming there are no issues, Sony is expected to expand its reach to more markets in the coming days.

Nougat brings new features like split-screen multitasking and quick switching between multiple apps, improvements to Doze, the Vulkan gaming API, and over 1,500 emoji — including 72 brand new ones.

Sony has already released Nougat for the Xperia X Performance and more recently its flagships Xperia XZ. It is quickly becoming the most efficient third-party Android vendor to rollout Nougat updates to its most recent devices.
