Space Jam sequel with Lebron James is finally happening

Everybody get up, it’s time to slam now…

If you’ve never heard the Space Jam theme song, you don’t know what you’re missing. Good news, though: you’ll probably be hearing it a lot more over the coming months, as a sequel to Space Jam is reportedly in the works.

According to Hollywood Reporter, Justin Lin (Furious 6, Star Trek Beyond) is in talks to direct, with Lebron James apparently in line to star. What, no Kobe? I heard he has plenty of time for other projects now that he’s retired.

The original Space Jam used a combination of live-action and animation, and featured Michael Jordan playing on a basketball team with the Looney Tunes cartoon characters. It was completely ludicrous but incredibly fun. And it featured Bill Murray, which is always a plus.

Rumors of a Space Jam sequel have persisted for months now, but it sounds like the project is finally coming together. It’s no surprise to hear James is set for the starring role; not only did he prove he has acting chops in Train Wreck, but he’s still the face of the NBA.

It’s unclear when Space Jam 2 is set for release, and with Lebron’s Cavs still in the NBA playoff race, filming likely won’t happen anytime soon.
