Street Fighter II intro dudes finally given names 25 years later

Any child of the early 90s knows these two goobers. Time and time again, the dynamic duo would duke it out on the introduction screen in Street Fighter II arcade cabinets at your local bowling alley or Pizza hut, and they wouldn’t stop punching each other until someone mercifully dropped a quarter into the machine.

For years, we just assumed that they were two random dudes starting a rumble on the street, but now that the rules of “canon” and “fictional universes” dictate that every little nonsensical detail must be accounted for, Capcom has christened these two with a personality and a name. Over on the Street Fighter subreddit, poster Shreeder4092 has found new information on the two in the “Street Fighter V Shadaloo activity report.”

The two are named Max, the guy getting his face smashed in, and Scott, the guy smashing the other guy’s face in. Not entirely original names, but whatever. The Shadaloo terrorist network keeps tabs on all fighters, and here’s the lowdown for what the spies overturned on these guys.

Street Fighter Scott Max (1)
  • Name: Scott
  • Height: 6’3 (191cm)
  • Weight: 209lbs (95kg)
  • Blood type: B
  • Birthday: 10th of September
  • Country of origin: USA
  • Likes: Street fighting
  • Dislikes: Caterpillars
Street Fighter Scott Max (2)
  • Name: Max
  • Height: 6’1 (187cm)
  • Weight: 205lbs (93kg)
  • Blood type: A
  • Birthday: 1st of April
  • Country of origin: USA
  • Likes: Himself, gambling, sparkly things
  • Dislikes: Simple things

Interesting little trivia, and it will certainly excite fans of Street Fighter’s canon. I think I’ll always remember them to be “the two random, nameless dudes” though. I’m not one for over-complicating the smallest of details for the sake of expanding fanboy culture. Such moves drain the mystery of franchises, leaving nothing open to the imagination.

Just like all the countless “backdrop” Star Wars aliens whose contrived backstories I’ve ignored over the years, I’ll be turning a blind eye to this information as well. Forever, they’ll be just two dudes punching each other in the face, until someone drops that quarter.

So much more fun.
