Suicide Squad currently undergoing huge reshoots to add more humor

Love it or hate it, Batman v Superman’s tone was bleak, almost overwhelmingly so. In fact, there was only one moment of levity in the movie’s two-plus hours, something that’s been universally criticized by fans. We’re not expecting Deadpool-levels of humor but little jokes can go a long way.

Luckily, Suicide Squad, the other DC property from Warner Bros., looks like it’ll be a lot more fun despite presenting a similarly dark tone—or will it?

According to BirthMoviesDeath, the funny, energetic Suicide Squad presented in the trailers doesn’t represent the film as a whole—something that apparently concerns studio executives. As a result, some very expensive reshoots are happening as we speak in an effort to add some humor to the film.

News of reshoots might sound bad but it’s actually a good thing. Warner Bros. has recognized that its universe can be both dark and funny; they’re not mutually exclusive. Here’s what BirthMoviesDeath had to say:

Hearing that WB is aware that they need to inject some fun into these movies—and that’s what I’m hearing is happening here, not that they’re inserting jokes left and right but that they’re beefing up fun character moments and interactions—can only mean good things for the future of the DC Movieverse.

Zack Snyder has already said the tone of Justice League, which begins filming in April, won’t be as dark, so it sounds like Batman v Superman’s “no fun” approach was the exception, not the rule.
