The 617 HP 2019 BMW M5 Competition Is The Faster, Louder And More Expensive One

The 2019 BMW M5 Competition is one with black-chrome kidney grilles that you buy when you want a faster, louder and visibly more expensive car. It’s like an ///M version of the ///M version because we live in branding hell.

We questioned the value of getting the then-rumored BMW M5 Competition last week, and learning that it only gains 17 horsepower over the normal M5 for $7,400 more, $110,995 (including destination), seems pretty silly.

Beyond the hop to 617 hp and inflated price, the 2019 M5 Competition also has 553 lb-ft of torque, can go from zero to 60 mph in 3.1 seconds, gets some suspension tuning, M Sport exhaust that will make your neighbors hate you even more, and if you decide to option up even further for the M Driver’s Package, you can hit a top speed of 189 mph.

Oh yeah, and let’s not forget the Competition trim also gets black-chrome finish on the grille, door handles, windows and mirrors, making it fit right in with all of the plasti-dipped 3rd-owner M5s on the road already. It also gets a special wheel design, which I would personally probably swap out for one of the better, older wheel designs at my earliest convenience.

It still has BMW’s X-Drive AWD system and an eight-speed automatic, still looks good, and will go into production in July. I’m sure it’s good. It’s the quickest M-car ever. I’m just not sure it’s worth it over a standard M5.
