The Aging Nissan GT-R Is Incredibly Still The Benchmark


The Nissan GT-R has come a long way since its introduction back in 2007. It’s not only the go-to choice for rich kids buying their first performance car or the one all of the teens like to talk about, but it’s also just genuinely an incredible car that can still throw punches with the newer competition.

It’s ten years later, and the GT-R is still being used as the benchmark to test new cars (mostly in Nismo trim) like the Acura NSX, Corvette Z06, Porsche 911 R and 911 GT3 RS, Audi RS6, Ferrari 458 Speciale, and on and on. It’s not necessarily better than the cars its put up against, but the GT-R should be honored to still be seen in such a competitive light.

The latest use of the GT-R as a benchmark against a new rival is in the head-to-head test against the new confusingly named Mercedes AMG GT R from Motor Trend:
