The Best Men’s Sweaters Under $200

Is it possible to love sweater weather too much? Is there a support group for that? Some kind of app or patch that can help me kick my cozy layer habit?

Not that there’s anything wrong with warming up (lol) to your cold-weather wardrobe, but a guy’s shopping cart total can approach dangerously high totals pretty damn fast when shopping for even just a few new things in the fall and winter.

I’m a big believer in spending what you can on items that will last. That said, the approaching holidays mean that soon we’ll be more likely to pull out our wallets for gifts than a “treat yo’self” moment. So, our team rounded up our favorite sweaters for the season, all ringing up under $200.

Here’s how to get your hygee on without breaking the bank.

Uniqlo Extra-Fine Merino Wool Turtleneck, $39

Is this the year Team SG finally convinces you that you can, in fact, pull off a turtleneck? I hope so! This one from Uniqlo rings up at an absurd $39 and would look as stylish in holiday party outfits as at the office.

Old Navy Textured Tartan Sweater, $50

This Old Navy sweater, in a classically cool tartan design, looks way more expensive than it has any right to. Even better? The seasonally-appropriate blue & green style comes in a textured cotton-blend yarn that’s machine-washable (just be sure to bypass the dryer, and lay it flat to dry instead).

Everlane The Grade-A Cashmere Crew, $125

Can confirm that Everlane’s cashmere is as good as the grade they’ve given it. It’s so SO soft and washes up like a dream (it says dry clean only but you can get the job done with careful handwashing).

Naadam The Essential Cashmere Sweater, $75

Team SG will continue to sing the praises (off-key, probably) of Naadam’s super high-quality and stupidly affordable cashmere offerings until every guy has something by the brand in his closet. Their Essential cashmere sweater rings up at only $75 and is made of 100% sustainable, hand-combed Mongolian cashmere. It also comes in a v-neck though I’m partial to a crewneck, which can travel back and forth between work and weekend clothes a little more seamlessly.

J.Crew Fair Isle Lambswool Sweater, $128

Does it feel a smidge too early to bust out a Fair Isle sweater? Maybe! But Mariah Carey’s already out there celebrating the 25th anniversary of “All I Want for Christmas Is You” while Vanessa Hudgens is back on Netflix for a “Princess Switch” sequel (called, hand to god, “Switched Again”), so I’d say the “Wait for Thanksgiving before you really lean into the holiday season in your wardrobe” restraints are off.

Bonobos Yak Wool Sweater, $158

Yes, another pink sweater. Deal with it! What, like while our team is out there, doing the hard work of researching cozy sweaters to recommend guys buy that we would totally steal for ourselves if we could, we’re just going to skip over a supes cute sweater from Bonobos made of freaking yak wool?! Nice try.

Schott NYC Southwestern Motif Cardigan, $170

Okay, you and I could debate if a cardigan really “counts” as a sweater the way we could go back and forth on if a hot dog is a sandwich, but let’s just admit this Schott NYC Southwestern style totally slaps and leave it at that.

Mollusk Henley Sweater, $128

Loving how casually put-together the model looks in this henley that’s sort of kind of also technically a sweater. This style is another example of a sweater that can really do it all. Wear it with chinos or twill pants and a desert boot to work, or on the weekends with joggers and sneakers. What’s not to love!

L.L. Bean Fisherman’s Sweater, $179

If you don’t have a proper fisherman’s sweater yet, L.L. Bean’s is one of the best (this side of the Atlantic, anyway). Wear it over a chambray shirt with dark-rinse jeans, well-worn laced boots ,and a leather belt, or dress it up with a textured wool suit for ‘burly mountain man cleans up nice’ vibes.

Todd Snyder Alpaca Crew, $198

Hi, hello, I do not know what to tell you other than this is the most cozy sweater that less than $200 (by two dollars!) could possibly buy. This is your “You know what, it’s Sunday so I’m not leaving the house” sweater that you pull on over whatever you slept in the night before, and also the same one you’ll want to throw on Monday morning when you need a “good outfit day” boost before dragging yourself to the office.
