The Donkervoort D8 GTO-40 Is The Most Of Everything You Could Want In A Car

Donkervoort Automobielen is celebrating its 40th year making hand-crafted super light sports cars this summer, and they’re marking the event with their best car yet: the D8 GTO-40, which is basically the most and best of everything ever in the car world.

The Donkervoort cars have been known for their record-breaking capabilities and occasional race wins (see: the 24 Hours of Dubai). They’re not mass-marketed, but they are machines designed for pure performance. The “jubilee model’, as Donkervoort is calling the D8 GTO-40, is the pinnacle of their evolution so far.

It is, according to their press release, the lightest, fastest, and most versatile GTO ever built. Which is a pretty impressive laundry list of “bests” that a car could have.

Being lightweight has essentially been the #1 goal of Donkervoort Automobielen since its inception. They’ve patented their own carbon fiber technology in-house, cutting back on weight but obviously keeping all the strength you need in a car. It weighs in at 678 kg—pretty similar to an F1 car without the driver. And, they’ve increased the torsional rigidity of the chassis, so this thing is basically as safe as you can get.

And that lightness makes it even quicker. Combined with Donkervoort’s attention to enhancing downforce and creating aerodynamic balance, this GTO can accelerate 0-200 km/h in 7.7 seconds (or 0 to 60 mph in about 4 seconds). They’ve added integrated front spoilers, a rear diffuser and plenty of cooling via extra air ducts just about anywhere they could fit them.

If you’re someone who likes their options, too, then you’re in luck. It’s the first Donkervoort to offer an air conditioning option, and you can also opt for an exhaust that gives you a “racier” sound, because everyone loves a car that makes a lot of noise.

But if you want to get your hands on these, you better act fast, and you better have a spar about $190,000 laying around (before taxes). Only 40 of these GTOs were made, and over half were already nabbed during a presale earlier this year.

I mean, you really can’t deny that these cars look like the future, and they must be a hell of a lot of fun to drive if you can basically customize a handmade vehicle to your needs.
