The Moments In Between Drift Cars Crashing and Blowing Up

Drifting is a high stress automotive activity. Wheel speeds go from 100 to zero and back again with a pull of the handbrake. Engines wail at the limiter at high G with little forward air flow. Everybody blows up. Everybody crashes. But in between, it looks like this.

You’re watching East Coast Bash, the annual Club Loose party held at Englishtown Raceway Park, in the New Jersey summer heat, an extended barbecue-then-beer affair that also includes a road course and lots and lots of drift cars.

Connor Croak put together this edit of how things felt this year, everyone letting their obsession kind of bake in the heat. Everyone just running their cars harder and harder, building up into the night. By the morning, most everybody’s car was broken, the rain had come down and flooded the whole area, and only the real looney toons went out on track.

But here was that clear, linear first day, preserved in amber forever.
