The Most Comfortable Shoes Grow on Trees, No Socks Required

Allbirds

Having conquered Silicon Valley and our hearts with merino shoes, Allbirds is back with their most significant launch since their inception, adding a new form factor and a whole new material: trees.

The Allbirds Tree line is at its core a new upper, or canopy if you will, built of renewable, breathable, stretchy eucalyptus fiber. Amazingly, the tree upper is even more comfortable than the merino analog of Allbirds’ original lineup, and perforated to make these shoes even more summer-ready.

The tree upper is available in the classic Allbirds Runner style, but also in a new shape called Skipper that’s more akin to a boat shoe or Ked. The Tree line is also the best of both worlds, retaining the Allbirds merino insole for its moisture-wicking and odor reducing powers.

The magical properties of merino and eucalyptus are part of what removes the sock requirement with Allbirds’ shoes, but comfort is just as big a factor. I’ve never been able to wear something like the Native Apollo Moc without it rubbing the skin off my heel, and I have zero issues with any of the Allbirds offerings.

Allbirds remains the standard for the everyday shoe for almost every occasion, and the Tree upper and Skipper shape make for even more versatility, while retaining the merino core and machine washability. I’m still asking myself the question, “How many pairs is too many?”
